Dr. Zhang’s research explores the algorithmic foundations of quantum computing, optimization, and machine learning. He develops efficient quantum algorithms that achieve concrete advantages over the best classical methods, while taking into account the limitations of early fault-tolerant devices. A central theme of his work is transferring ideas across the quantum–classical boundary to tackle algorithmic problems with real-world impact.
